Who We Are

Established in June 2005, Urbanbiz was conceived as a need to address the gap in suitable services and provision for the African and African Caribbean communities of West Yorkshire around training, recruitment, research, business development and advice.

Urbanbiz outline a core social aim of regenerating disadvantaged and marginalised communities by helping them gain suitable employment.

We have developed a successful engagement model of employment support with BAME groups and have won and successfully delivered a range of skills, work, training and enterprise programmes across the region. Indeed in 2007, we were identified as the most successful provider in the UK under a pilot for ‘Fair Cities’ run across several UK locations.

In addition, our work has gained recognition in the region through the Social Enterprise Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2006, winning an award for ‘Start up of the Year’.

Our main remit is as a social firm to provide employment, recruitment services, skills, qualifications and training opportunities for minority and ethnic groups across Yorkshire. We are an approved City & Guilds Centre, OCN, NCFE and OCR centre and offers training to individuals who are facing educational barriers to employment.

Through employment skills training, we offer hugely successful ESOL, ICT, Literacy, Numeracy and Preparation for Work.

Key client groups of Urbanbiz include its core client group of African Caribbean as well as other indigenous BAME communities such as Pakistanis, Indians, Bangladeshis and Chinese. In addition it has successfully targeted Afghanis, Iraqis, Eastern Europeans (A8 communities) as well as people from other migrant and refugee communities which have added to its capability in providing employment services for a diverse range of communities.

Within these ethnic groups, we have a focus on connecting with disadvantaged communities such as the workless, women, over 50s, the disabled, young people, mentally disabled and lone parents. We recognise that for many people across the region, there are still many barriers that prevent them from having the same equality of opportunity as other people enjoy. Our mission is to create and provide unique services that will help such people realise their aspirations and live a better life.
